The best diving from Khao Lak
At Ao Thong Beach Bungalows and Restaurant we try to make your stay in Thailand as easy and comfortable as possible. That’s why this season we are introducing diving trips to Boonsung Wreck departing exclusively from White Sand Beach, right on the doorstep of Ao Thong Beach. The ease with which it is possible to join one of these trips conveniently right outside your bedroom makes a trip to Boonsung Wreck a ‘must do’ for any scuba diver staying with us.
Taking up Mr. Neung’s recommendation of using his trusted professional dive partners, Thailand Dive and Sail, will mean there is no endless walking around Khao Lak town researching dive companies. No other dive operator departs from this beach too, meaning that this is the obvious choice for a convenient and hassle free day of diving. Adding to the convenience of departing so close by, Thailand Dive and Sail’s experienced staff will also come to you for equipment fittings and to answer any questions you may have.
About the Boonsung Wreck
Boonsung Wreck is an old tin mining vessel that sank off the coast of Bangsak Village about 30 years ago. It was displaced by the 2004 Tsunami which spread the boat’s structure over a wide area of the ocean bed, meaning that dive site grew and gave more opportunities for larger numbers of people to dive here. Its depth is at a maximum of 18 metres making it a perfect dive destination for all levels of diver; from the experienced to beginners everyone will be able to explore the wealth of sea life hidden here.
These days the Similan Islands can be quite over crowded, but Boonsung Wreck is still fairly quiet, especially at the times Thailand Dive and Sail schedule a visit. The dive site is rich with under water life, described by one customer as a “big fish soup”; finds can often include Lion fish, Moray Eels, various species of Nudibranch and you might even be lucky enough to spot a juvenile Octopus!
As previously mentioned, Boonsung Wreck is a nice alternative to the Similan Islands for diving in the Khao Lak area; it takes just 30 minutes from White Sand Beach to reach the wreck and is a relatively late start and early finish. This means that with your exciting day of diving you will also get some time in the afternoon for relaxing at the resort and to enjoy a nice afternoon beer or snack in the Ao Thong Restaurant.
